Apologies to the Next Generation
‘Apologies to the Next Generation’, 2017,
250x690x40 cm
Silicone, Mirror, timber, Faux hair, Taxidermy duck, plastic, cast foam.
This is a self reflective piece, scolding myself for my everyday actions, created with a mirrored background. For me, ‘Oops’ is a powerful piece of narrative which reflects my own struggle of life adaptation and correction. The trapped duck(taxidermy), bleached coral(foam sculpt and cast) give us a direct display of our impact on the earth, the babies(silicone sculpt and cast) are a symbol for the next generation we are passing it onto. While trying to live with awareness of my plastic usage and footprint, I regularly retract into my old ways, saying to myself ‘Oh oops”. A cynical little word, to defuse the situation.
